Seamless Pipe
A pipe manufactured without a welded seam, produced by hot extrusion or cold drawing from a solid billet, providing superior pressure ratings and uniform wall thickness.
What is a Seamless Pipe?
Seamless pipes are made from a solid round billet that is heated and pushed or pulled over a form until it becomes a hollow tube. Because there is no weld seam, seamless pipes can withstand higher pressures and temperatures than welded alternatives.
Manufacturing Process
- Billet heating to 1200-1300°C
- Piercing (Mannesmann process)
- Hot rolling or extrusion
- Cold drawing or cold pilgering for precision sizes
- Heat treatment (annealing/solution annealing)
- Straightening and cutting
- Non-destructive testing
Standards
ASTM A312/A312M, ASTM A213/A213M, ASTM A269, ASTM A789/A790 (duplex), ASTM B444/B829 (nickel alloy)
