Stainless Steel 316H Seamless Pipes & Tubes

SS 316H (UNS S31609) is the high-carbon version of 316, with carbon controlled to 0.04-0.10%. It combines the molybdenum-enhanced corrosion resistance of 316 with superior creep strength at elevated temperatures (425-816C). This makes it the preferred choice for high-temperature service in corrosive environments where both properties are essential.

VS
SS 316H vs SS 316 / 316L: 316H has higher carbon for superior creep strength at elevated temps; 316 for general service.
VS
SS 316H vs SS 304H: 316H adds molybdenum for better chloride resistance; 304H is more economical.
VS
SS 316H vs SS 317L: 317L has higher Mo (3-4%); 316H is specifically for high-temperature applications.

Applicable Standards

ASTM A312 / ASME SA312ASTM A213 / ASME SA213ASTM A269DIN EN 10216-5

Applications

High-temperature service (425-816C) in corrosive environments
Power plant superheater tubes with chloride exposure
Petrochemical furnace tubes with acid contact
Refinery heater tubes requiring Mo for corrosion
Chemical plant heat exchangers at elevated temps
Boiler tubes in marine/offshore environments

Key Advantages of SS 316H

βœ“Superior creep strength at 425-816C with Mo-enhanced corrosion resistance
βœ“Higher carbon provides better high-temperature rupture properties
βœ“Better chloride resistance than 304H due to molybdenum content
βœ“ASME approved for high-temperature pressure vessel service
βœ“Excellent for boiler and superheater applications in corrosive environments
βœ“Combines best of high-temp strength and pitting resistance
